El evento de 1984 en el Nürburgring no fue una carrera de campeonato, sino una exhibición pensada para inaugurar el nuevo circuito GP con una parrilla formada íntegramente por pilotos de Fórmula 1 al volante de Mercedes 190E idénticos.
La berlina W201 en diecast AUTOart
AUTOart reproduce esta berlina compacta con la carrocería sobria del W201 de calle, apenas modificada para la ocasión, y con la numeración deportiva aplicada sobre la pintura de serie. El diecast conserva las proporciones correctas de una berlina de cuatro puertas de los ochenta, sin el aerodinámico exagerado de otros turismos de competición de la época, porque el propio evento exigía coches prácticamente de calle. El número 1 de Lauda figura con nitidez sobre las puertas y el capó, y la carrocería mantiene líneas de junta ajustadas propias de una berlina compacta.
Niki Lauda y la exhibición de Nürburgring
Que Mercedes reuniera a una parrilla de pilotos de F1 para estrenar su nuevo trazado dice mucho de la ambición con la que la marca lanzó el 190E 2.3-16, la base que después derivaría en el mítico Cosworth de competición del DTM. La victoria de Lauda en esa carrera de exhibición añade un capítulo curioso a la biografía de un piloto tres veces campeón del mundo, en un coche muy alejado de sus monoplazas habituales.
Una pieza distinta para una vitrina de Mercedes
Este 190E funciona bien como contrapunto a los Mercedes de competición más agresivos, como los 190E del DTM, mostrando el origen más discreto de la misma plataforma. Es una miniatura que invita a contar la historia completa del W201 en la vitrina, desde la berlina de exhibición hasta el turismo de carreras en el que se convirtió después.
